RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

Whats that behind him? snow? YEP... on the roof of a building, -- that's a Canadian Hawk, eh. by the way.. he is a Cooper's Hawk, quite large (He is about two feet -head to tail). And a juvenile at that.. less than 2 years old. Someone who is expert finally came up with an ID for me.

RE: I Don't Get It

Patience grasshopper. The Road King Custom thread has been going on for years. It was started by 1Kperday, who has long since dropped off the site. He asked a simple question (about why that model bike was so ugly) and many of us who own the bike responded. We have dropped the original talk of the Custom model a while back (even HD doesn't make it anymore) but we still talk to each other! And many have joined in. It is a mini-community. Many of us have ridden together. No Road King Custom is required, in fact, most on the thread no longer own that model (except me and a few others). But, feel free to come on over and participate! You are very welcome. It is probably the longest running most posted single motorcycle thread on the web! :B

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

How do you like Ontario's weather Gringo? :-) I'm about 300 miles North-East of you in the Montreal area. I just finished shoveling about a foot of snow in my driveway. Its a very long story, and a bit personal, but I can now begin to plan my return to my Miami home. I will be more than happy to leave all this snow to you Canadians, eh? Quebecquois aussi, oui?

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

Here's hoping all you guys are ready for the Holidays.. I am in Toronto watching the snow fall.. another foot will come this weekend.. and dreaming about my scooter. I should be reunited with it in a few months.. ahhhh.. the sacrifices we make for love! :) Here ya go.. my local forecast right now: WINTER STORM WATCH: Halton - PeelIssued at 3:40 PM EST WEDNESDAY 17 DECEMBER 2008 MAJOR SNOW STORM EXPECTED ON FRIDAY. THIS IS AN ALERT TO THE POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT OF DANGEROUS WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS IN THESE REGIONS. MONITOR WEATHER CONDITIONS..LISTEN FOR UPDATED STATEMENTS. MOTHER NATURE IS STRIKING SOUTHERN ONTARIO WITH A SERIES OF WINTER STORMS. THE FIRST ONE WAS RELATIVELY TAME..10 CENTIMETRES LAST NIGHT WITH VERY LITTLE WIND. ON FRIDAY A FAST-MOVING BUT DYNAMIC STORM WILL HAVE EMERGED FROM COLORADO AND WILL RACE CLOSE TO THE LOWER GREAT LAKES. HEAVY SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN IN SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO THURSDAY NIGHT REACHING THE GREATER TORONTO REGION JUST BEFORE DAWN ON FRIDAY MORNING. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 15 TO 20 CENTIMETRES ARE WIDELY EXPECTED ACROSS MUCH OF THE LOWER GREAT LAKES BY FRIDAY EVENING. STRONG EAST WINDS OF 40 GUSTING AT TIMES TO 60 KM/H WILL DEVELOP THURSDAY NIGHT AND CONTINUE ON FRIDAY. THIS WILL COMPOUND THE SEVERITY OF THE STORM GIVING NEAR WHITE-OUT CONDITIONS AT TIMES IN FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW. THE STORM MAY EVEN HAVE AN EXTRA STING AROUND THE WEST END OF LAKE ONTARIO DUE TO THE POTENTIAL FOR A LAKE-ENHANCED HEAVY SNOW BAND WHICH MAY AFFECT LOCALES FROM OAKVILLE INTO TORONTO FOR AWHILE ON FRIDAY BEFORE SHIFTING TOWARDS HAMILTON AND NIAGARA. LOCAL ACCUMULATIONS NEAR THE WEST END OF THE LAKE MAY REACH 25 OR 30 CENTIMETRES. WINTER STORM WARNINGS WILL LIKELY BE ISSUED AS THE STORM APPROACHES. MEANWHILE..WESTERLY WINDS ARE BRINGING LAKE-EFFECT FLURRIES AND LOCAL SNOWSQUALLS AROUND THE BRUCE PENINSULA AND TO THE EAST OF GEORGIAN BAY. THE SQUALLS WILL PERSIST THIS EVENING BEFORE WEAKENING OVERNIGHT INTO THURSDAY MORNING. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS UP TO 15 CM WILL BE POSSIBLE IN THE HEAVIEST SQUALLS ESPECIALLY EAST OF GEORGIAN BAY.

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

Gringo, I still want to hook up with you sometime, just have to find a weeknight I can do that on. Payloader -- I will let you know when I am back in Denver. I am currently working for that client, but working from home! It's a great feeling to be able to do my job and NOT travel! As long as they are happy with my remote work, I will do it this way. It's the first real break I have had from the road for about 6 months.

Minor interruption - a brief word from (and for) the USA: Regardless of where you stand ---- Have you voted yet? I had to submit an absentee ballot this year, but I have voted! --- we now return you to our regularly scheduled discussion of exhausts and chrome.

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

I wasn't really looking for a politial comment, but an economic one. Thats good. I can never keep my mouth shut anyway.. :) my thoughts: 1. I 100% agree with the Buy American concept. Whenever possible, I try to do that - I have never owned an import car in my life (except for one VW back in the 60s), and I have owned a TON of cars! There are foreign items I want, and can afford, but I have decided to stay USA whenever I have a choice. 2. It is getting harder to figure out what "American" is when it comes to products. I own Two Chryslers, and have owned many in the past, but one of my current two was built by Daimler Chrysler - so is it an American car or a German car? Its over 80% German parts but was assembled here. Many Toyotas and Hondas are the same, imported parts and US assembly. I have decided to do what I do on everything else - make the best judgment I can. So I buy what I perceive as American, and I will let the nitpickers try to add up nuts and bolts, metric vs. SAE. I don't have the time to do that silliness anyway. It seems this puts me in line with Obama and opposed to McCain. That really surprises me. I would have thought it would be the other way around! I am still not saying who I am voting for ;)
